This work was inspired by John Cage, Peter Gabriel and Deftones. I enjoy mixing ideas from a variety of genres! The first section is high energy as the “steam” builds up and is released. Found metal objects provide the sound of tubes the steam will flow through. Various time signatures at the end provide unexpected twists and turns of the Steam being released. The slow section utilizes bowed vibes and one handed rolls creating a more tranquil picture of steam rising from the grass in a meadow. The third section of the piece uses tuned scuba tanks (or singing bowls) played like singing bowls, pitched tin cans and conversations between the keyboards signifying the steam building up again. The final movement is a full out energetic blast of steam until the end of the piece.
