A hero’s journey, ‘Conquering Everest’ explores the daunting task of climbing the world’s largest mountain. From the first determined step, to the final moment of victory, this show theme captures the essence of human ambition, the will to overcome, and the beauty of the journey itself.
Excitement, preparation, and anticipation build throughout the opening movement as climbers prepare for the monumental task ahead of them. Brass fanfares, spirited woodwind lines, and percussive embellishments combine with the bright colored flags of Nepal to capture the thrill and excitement of the journey ahead.
The second movement explores the quiet, serene beauty of the snow covered mountain and the crisp stillness of the mountain air. Soft blues, crystal whites, and opaque fabrics change the color pallet and mood of this movement. Resolving with an extended ensemble halt, the moment soon turns. The mountain is beautiful, but also unpredictable.
The stillness of the ballad is quickly shattered as the music quickly grows dark and intense. Driven by the percussion ensemble, this movement signifies the chaos and danger of the mountainside. Fragmented drill formations, aggressive guard choreography, and alternative guard equipment all highlight the percussion ensembles as we depict the unforgiving forces of nature.
